Ukraine investigating over 120,000 alleged Russia war crimes

Ukrainian Prosecutor Basic Andriy Kostin introduced Friday on the Struggle Crimes Convention 2024, a day earlier than the second anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, that Ukraine is within the technique of investigating 120,000 potential Russian warfare crimes.

Kostin spoke with Reuters on the convention in Berlin, affirming that Ukraine has “recognized already 511 perpetrators” and “already [has] 80 convictions in Ukrainian Courts.” Following the convention, Kostin launched an announcement through X (previously referred to as Twitter) concerning the “Herculean activity” of investigating some 120,000 warfare crimes. He said:

We have now no fatigue. We have now solely optimism and willpower. Our key ideas to cope with the challenges are prioritizing instances, making use of trendy instruments and applied sciences, and cooperating with worldwide justice mechanisms and accomplice states. Perpetrators should not go unpunished, no matter their ranks and positions. Ukrainian courts are contemplating instances in opposition to 12 Russian generals. And there might be extra.

The German Federal Ministry of Justice hosted the worldwide convention. Alongside Kostin, the convention was attended by German Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann, Polish Minister of Justice Professor Adam Bodnar, US authorities representatives and others. In his speech on the convention, Buschmann affirmed Germany’s help of Ukraine, commenting, “When weapons communicate, the legislation doesn’t stay silent.” He promised that Germany would strengthen its human rights legal guidelines and cooperate with Ukraine.

The convention passed off shortly earlier than the second anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Different worldwide responses got here from the US and UK, with each introducing extra sanctions in opposition to Russia.
