Escaped inmate captured after being injured in hit-and-run 300 feet from Hawaiian jail

An inmate on the run was significantly injured in a hit-and-run as he fled down the freeway after scaling the razor-wire fence of a Hawaiian jail.

Matthew J. Ornellas Jr., 33, who was serving time within the Kauai Neighborhood Correctional Middle on a drug cost, allegedly escaped the power round 1 a.m. Friday morning and bumped into oncoming visitors on Kuhio Freeway.
